Personality Types Best Suited for Montessori Method

Each individual teacher spends a significant amount of time designing the prepared learning environment by selecting Montessori appropriate materials. Selecting materials to be placed in each classroom is extremely important because if there are too many materials, the children will lose focus in the cluttered environment.

Self-teaching materials in the Montessori system also take into account the various learning styles of children. It is essential that all styles are nurtured in the education process be it intra/inter-personal, logical, mathematical or tactile. This is one of many reasons that Montessori education has worked in various cultural contexts and has proven success in all socio-economic levels. This education method is also highly effective for children with disabilities; in fact, the original studies were with disabled children.

Although the Montessori school is effective for most children, children that are easily over stimulated or those who are overly aggressive may perhaps benefit better in schools that have a more structured environment. It is also important to note that the Montessori method encourages the creation of a multi-aged classroom generally comprised of 3 year increments (0-3, 3-6, 6-9 and so on). This means that many of the classes are larger than in traditional schools and thus another important factor to take into consideration for your child. The most successful classes have been found to be groupings of roughly 30-35 students per teacher and one non-teaching assistant.
